The newly formed Evandale Weagles women's team will play strong contender Burnie on Sunday afternoon, part of a push to see more attention brought to the fledgling side.
Evandale Football Club general manager Michael Rigby said the women's sport was the fastest-growing aspect of the AFL and he hoped it would highlight the sport in Northern Tasmania.
The Weagles will meet Burnie at Morvern Park from 1pm to 2.30pm, a key attraction before the main match between Evandale and Old Scotch.
"The girls just started this year," Mr Rigby said.
"We're trying to lift the profile of ladies' football, which is receiving growing media coverage."
Although Burnie has a tough record to match, Mr Rigby said they were hoping to upset the visiting team.
"The girls are getting better and better every week," Mr Rigby said.
"They've really added a lot to the club - they brought in more supporters, which is great for the community there, it's been magnificent."
He said there were a handful of players from the game who came to the club as daughters of former or current players.
Mr Rigby said regional football was a great way to take the family out on a weekend, and that there would be no match fees for any of the day's games.
The day's program will be: Auskick from 9.30am to 10.30am, Launceston against Devonport from 10.30am to 11.45am, Greater Western Tiers v St Pat's from 11.45am to 1pm, Evandale Weagles v Burnie from 1pm to 2.30pm, and Evandale Masters v Old Scotch from 2.30am to 3.45pm.
