"Last weekend's game against Geelong was an extremely tough battle against a talented and deep side that only last year was in Eastern Conference final," Tornadoes head coach Reece Potter said.
"Our group battled hard throughout the match, though Geelong's defensive variations including presses and trapping zones negatively impacted with our ability to execute offensively at crucial stages of the game.
"Overall, offensively, we put in a good enough showing to win the game but it was on the defensive end where we had some breakdowns later on that cost us the game."
While praising the effort of his team as second to none, Potter said the Torns must improve and be able to execute their defensive game plan at a higher level in order to lock down and win tight games.
"While it was disappointing to lose at home, our group is focused more than ever to work on what we need to fix to achieve our goals and continue to push for more wins," he said.
On their first SEABL road trip this weekend, the Tornadoes head to Canberra to take on the Canberra Capitals Academy and the Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence women's team.
"There are going to be some tough match-ups as both sides have quality WNBL level players," Potter said.
"Canberra are a small team and we will look to exploit this on the offensive end using our size to our advantage.
"Steph Talbot is a key player for Canberra that we will be looking to shut down and is currently in the Opals squad and is another legitimate star of the league.
"In addition to Talbot, veteran Jessica Bibby will be a danger player with her outstanding three-point shooting and ability to score."
Potter said the Basketball Australia's Centre of Excellence team included Katie-Rae Ebzery and Alex Bunton, along with the top junior crop coming through the ranks, and he expected another tight game.
"It will be a tough road trip and will test our team mentally and physically but as always I'm confident in our group due to the great preparation they put in during the week."
