In collaboration with Tourism Tasmania, the road trip will also include Uluru and Sydney Harbour with the show’s hosts broadcasting live from their destination.
Hosts Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson will speak to members of the community and experience the unique culture along the way.
‘‘Australia rocks – I plan to visit every pie shop and pub in five days,’’ Stefanovic said.
‘‘It’s going to be like schoolies for oldies.’’
Tourism Australia managing director John O’Sullivan said the tour would attract more visitors to the state and encourage more people to holiday in Australia.
‘‘When it comes to promoting their country as a holiday destination Australians are passionate advocates for sharing their inside knowledge with the rest of the world, especially on social media,’’ Mr O’Sullivan said.
‘‘Not surprisingly, Australia has the largest destination Facebook page in the world with more than six million fans, including 1.4 million Australians who are actively engaged in telling the world about the many travel experiences and attractions we have to offer and why they should travel to our country.’’
The Today Show will be in Launceston on Wednesday, March 11.
