Zack Gilmore and Ryan Lawson recorded the Tasmanian team's best results on the opening night, much to the delight of their parents.
Ken Lawson enjoyed a successful track career in Tasmania and described watching 13-year-old Ryan as "a proud and historical journey".

Meanwhile, fellow TIS cycling coach, and Zack's dad, Matthew Gilmore, arrived in Melbourne fresh from helping coach Australia to the top of the medal table at the track world championships in Paris.
The Sydney Olympic silver medallist and former madison world champion described the change of events as a "humbling experience".
"Without a doubt, our senior team culture and camaraderie starts with our junior state teams led by fantastic coaches, managers, support staff and enthusiastic kids having a good time," Gilmore said.
Ryan added to his fourth place in the under-15 sprint by claiming a fifth in the time trial, which also saw Eddy Calvert finish 15th, Cam McPherson 21st and Daniel DiDomenico 22nd.
Meanwhile Zack added a sixth place in the under-17 individual pursuit to the bronze medal he won in the points race. Ainsleigh Gray finished 20th and Mitch Gittus 23rd.
