A fresh fruit and vegetable shop has enjoyed steady custom since it opened in Macquarie Street exactly a week ago.
Fresh on Macquarie owner Rodney Grace has employed two people for his venture into greengrocery.
He said he was compelled to open the business following consistent complaints about the quality of fruit and vegetables available in the town.
Mr Grace said he sourced food from the locality and encouraged people to buy locally.
Tamar FM president Kevin Ellis said it was thanks to the new council that businesses - including the community radio station - were showing an interest in investing in the region.
Tamar FM will soon submit an expression of interest to move into a vacant lot in the Memorial Hall Complex.
Mr Ellis said the move would give the radio station an increased presence in the town.
"There's a new council and the positive feeling is flowing through the community," he said.
"The town's starting to get behind the council and things like this are all of a sudden becoming normal."
George Town Council Mayor Bridget Archer said she was aware of other businesses which would soon open their doors.
"It's a really positive sign - we've had a number of empty shops for some time and it's hopefully a good sign that there are people prepared to come in.
"I think it's a sign of more to come."
