The state government's push to see industrial hemp legalised as a food product has hit a snag, as the forum's majority agreed that the legalisation of industrial hemp would send a negative message about cannabis use to the Tasmanian community.
``At the forum, I voted to accept low-THC hemp in foods, however the forum determined there were still safety concerns associated with the move,'' he said.
``On that result, on behalf of Tasmania I worked with other colleagues to resolve the new resolution to continue work, with a view to resolving the issues identified by other states as obstacles. We were pleased to salvage that agreement. Therefore it is our intention to work with the Commonwealth and other jurisdictions to resolve those concerns and get it back on the agenda as soon as possible.''
