She is holding a movie and Cambodian food night on February 6 at The Branch in Kings Meadows from 6.30 pm to raise funds for the children at Savong's School, near Siem Reap.
Ms Horan, 22, first volunteered at the school as a Newstead College student in 2010, returned in 2012 as a Reach Out volunteer, and will again return this year for six months.
She said she would be working in the community offering basic health education, helping to progress a water pump project, and getting more children to attend the free school.
She has already raised $1400 for her volunteer mission.
Of that $500 is to be spent on the water pump project for which she will be identifying rural areas that need fresh water, and $55 a month to allow a 17-year-old girl to attend a private school and follow her dream to eventually study medicine.
"Even though they are working against the odds they are very determined," she said.
Money raised from the movie night will go towards offering Western cooking classes to Cambodians, who will then be able to find jobs working in restaurants that offer Western food for tourists.
Australian movie Tracks will be shown for $10 and a food plate costs $5. For more information email Ms Horan at socfundraising.empowerment @gmail.com.
