Beau Anthony Weily was given a four-month sentence for two assaults, one occurring in Launceston and the other at Newstead.
Weily was in prison for numerous driving and dishonesty offences serving a 16-month sentence, that had eight months suspended for two years.
The first attack occurred on March 6 within the Launceston central business district when Weily grabbed and pulled the victim's shirt and punched him in the face.
The second attack was on May 11.
At 1.30am the victim was walking with a group of friends at Newstead when they were approached by a black Mazda and four males, including the driver who was Weily.
The victim was punched in the head by Weily and then kicked by two of the other males, rendering the victim unconscious.
The victim later discharged himself from the Launceston General Hospital.
Magistrate Reg Marron did not accept an explanation that the assaults were conducted in the company of others, and the injuries not solely the result of Weily's actions.
"These are two incidents occurring a couple of months apart involving assault and in my view nasty assaults ... [these are] things the community does not want to see," Mr Marron said.
