INCREASED prices for Metro busses are set to take place on January 5.
The prices will vary by up to 80 cents for fares, the result of a decision announced by the Metro board on Friday.
Metro chief executive officer Stuart Wiggins said the organisation aimed to keep prices as low as possible.
``It is important that we balance our need for revenue to provide services against our goal to increase bus patronage,'' Mr Wiggins said.
``It is also important that we take into account our passengers' ability to pay.''
He said those who used the service could save up to 20 per cent on fares by using a Greencard instead of cash for their travels.
Mr Wiggins said no increase on urban area concession and student fares had been introduced in the past two years.
