SUPER-student Eamonn Shorter has ended 2014 on a high note.
With a national public speaking award already on the mantelpiece, the 15-year-old Launceston Church Grammar School student this week scored an A-plus in his Australian Music Examinations Board grade 8 piano exams.
This is on top of his daily schoolwork, the attempted mastery of the cello, and various dramatic pursuits.
Eamonn, who lists Beethoven and Béla Bartók as his favourite composers, said he spends up to an hour a night on each of his instruments.
‘‘I like pieces that aren’t overly expressive, but have good melodies and allow for a bit of expression,’’ he said.
Eamonn is also a big fan of rap, with Jay-Z and 50 Cent among his favourite artists.
‘‘I’ve played a lot at the Launceston Competitions, but performing to a crowd of 10,000 people one day would be fantastic,’’ he said.
In July Eamonn won the national Rostrum Voice of Youth speaking competition in Adelaide, while placing second in the national final of the Legacy Junior Public Speaking competition in November.
He plans to sit his grade 8 cello exams next year.
