A SPEEDING driver who injured a young woman in a Prospect crash has been given a wholly suspended prison sentence.
Nicholas Charles Pitt, 23, was last month found guilty of reckless driving over the single-car collision in December 2010 that left passenger Alexandra Viney with a serious injury to her left arm.
Pitt admitted to speeding and weaving all over the road before the crash, and went the wrong way through a roundabout.
The car smashed into a guard rail and telegraph pole on Westbury Road, rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof in the early hours of December 14, 2010, the same day Pitt and Miss Viney were set to graduate from Launceston Church Grammar School.
Miss Viney's injuries included restricted movement in her left arm and loss of feeling in parts of her hand.
Pitt recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.126, which led to his licence being cancelled for 10 months and a $700 fine.
Justice David Porter yesterday sentenced Pitt to a four-month prison term, which he wholly suspended for 18 months.
He described Pitt's behaviour as a "very foolhardy and reprehensible course of conduct".
Justice Porter said he took into account Pitt's remorse, his good character and the delay before the matter was finalised.
