The school was presented with the Medibank Active Tasmania award in Launceston last week and received $2000 towards future sporting activities.
The award specifically focused on the school's participation in the Australian government's Active After-school Communities program and the school's ability to encourage children to participate in local club sport.
More than 70 per cent of the school population participates in the AASC program and is actively engaged in a variety of community activities, such as hockey, bowls, golf, petanque and fitness activities.
AASC regional manager Aaron Robert said Bicheno primary had embraced the program.
"The local sporting community has been very supportive, with golf, petanque and bowls clubs hosting several programs inviting children to become club members," he said.
"The award also recognises the great work of school staff, including school executive officer Sandra Silberberg and local community member Phil Sliskovic."
Following a successful 10 years, the AASC program will end on December 31 and will be replaced with the new Sporting Schools initiative.
From 2015, Sporting Schools will become Australia's largest school-based participation program for children that aims to foster a lifelong connection with sport.
