Saville, ranked within the top 200 in the world, faced off against Tasmania Devils top player Harry Bourchier — winning with scores of 4-2 and 4-1.
Tennis Tasmania tournaments and competitions co-ordinator Trent Constance said the event boasted the best-ever tennis standard produced in Launceston.
‘‘It really puts it on the map as having one of the leading facilities in Tasmania,’’ Constance said.
‘‘All these men will be coming back next year for the Launceston Challenger, it gives them great match practice in the competition.’’
He said the Devils were now looking for finals placement as a result of their performance in the series to date, despite dropping a match against the Royal South Yarra team.
‘‘We’ve gone through four rounds now, we’ve won two and lost two,’’ Constance said.
‘‘We were previously on a two-match winning streak and are definitely looking for the finals.
‘‘This coming Friday is the last round before the finals in Melbourne on Sunday.’’
He said all six teams from the league played yesterday and included a kids clinic as part of the competition schedule.
‘‘The most difficult part today was that the wind was not just coming from one direction, which made it quite difficult for players,’’ Constance said.
‘‘They’re professional players, their efforts probably highlighted just how good they were.’’
