The 22-year-old will see a surgeon next month to determine her next course of action.
"Losing Katelyn is a big loss for the team," coach Julia Price said yesterday.
"She has been bowling and training better than ever and will be missed."
The loss of fast bowler Fryett is off-set slightly by the return of all-rounder Erin Burns from her own knee injury.
Northern Tasmanians Meg Phillips and Brooke Hepburn are in the Tasmanian squad.
Despite the absence of Fryett, Queensland won't be taking the Tassie Roar lightly, says coach Andy Richards.
"We see them as a danger to be honest after their win over WA," Richards said.
"[English import] Heather Knight adds a lot to their batting and with Erin Burns coming back, so we can't afford to be complacent as their batting line-up is a lot stronger than it has been."
"They are all capable of making runs and from our perspective we need to focus on the whole team, not just Heather Knight."
The Fire sit second on the T20 table with a 3-1 record and third (1-1) in the 50 over league, while the Roar have won one of their two T20s and lost their 50-over match to WA.
Last summer's T20 champions have included Australian fast bowler Holly Ferling in its squad for all matches, after she made her comeback from a back injury in the T20s against the Breakers earlier this month.
"We've had some really good spells and sessions of good cricket, and the bonus for us this round is to have Holly back playing all three games."
Fire captain and Australian great Jodie Fields is coming off an unbeaten 99 against New South Wales and consecutive centuries in club cricket.
Jess Jonassen and Delissa Kimmince are back from Southern Stars duties.
The teams will play a T20 tomorrow at 6pm, a 50-over match on Saturday at 11am and a T20 on Sunday at 10am.
