IT IS most disturbing to hear of the cuts that are being made to the ABC, especially when Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull says "the savings are not of a level that require any changes in programming".

Cuts of the size proposed by Mr Turnbull will inevitably lead to loss of staff who provide the research and expertise for programs such as the ABC's Friday night 7.30 report.
The Prime Minister did promise on the eve of the last election "that there would be no cuts to the ABC and SBS" - now the minister tells us this was not really a promise.
Many of us heard the words and believed them.
