Aimed at children aged seven to 14, the Junior Jack Attack program includes bowls equipment especially designed for children.
Bowls Australia regional manager Simon Morrison said the organisation had been looking to show the sport to children for the past four years.
"It comes in the form of a kit that includes a carry bag, 32 light-weight rubber bowls, eight jacks, 50 cones, a target score mat, eight stepping mats and activity cards," Mr Morrison said.
"For a seven-year-old the bowls are heavy and a bit dangerous so the kits are lighter and designed to be used on a basketball court, on the grass or any surface."
Volunteer coaches from the George Town Bowls Club took the small group of children from the primary school to teach them the rules and techniques of the game.
The program is working with the federal government initiative Active After School Communities to promote a healthy lifestyle for young children.
"It's all about having fun and participating in our sport.
"The kids love it and they are really getting a big buzz out of it," he said.
It's a great way of introducing young children to the sport."
