Tasmania Police say they made the bust after a public tip-off and waited for the Victorian woman to get off a flight from Melbourne on Friday afternoon.
A full police search of the woman allegedly found about 580 grams of ice crystals taped to her upper body and she was arrested and charged with drug trafficking.
Yesterday Launceston CIB Detective Inspector Scott Flude said the bust was not thought to be bikie gang-related at this stage.
Inspector Flude said police had intelligence about the possible movement of ice into the state on commercial flights.
He said the drugs would most likely have been sold in Northern Tasmania.
"Any time we take this amount of product off the streets, as we have done on Friday, it certainly puts a dent in the operations of people involved in the trafficking of methamphetamine," Inspector Flude said.
"It weighs about 580 grams, it is worth anywhere between $550,000 to $600,000 depending on what they do with it at the time, so it is a significant disruption of drugs into our state."
The bust comes amid media reports that Tasmania is experiencing an ice scourge, and on Sunday the Police Association of Tasmania criticised the police strategy in its crime fight against the spread of drugs in the state.
Inspector Flude denied that this bust, which wasn't announced until yesterday, was a result of the criticism.
"This happened on Friday night. Detectives were busy with other matters over the weekend so it was always our intention to make this announcement today," he said.
The woman appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded to appear again on Thursday.
A 40-year-old former Tasmanian man was also arrested but has not been charged in relation to the drug matters.
