Tasmanian Institute of Sport scholarship holder Penny has recently returned from the World Cup circuit in Portugal and Belarus where he fractured his left foot in a pre-competition training camp.
State coach and assistant Australian coach Ben Kelly, said the injury was quite traumatic for the Launceston athlete as he also missed the 2013 world championships due to a similar injury sustained in a pre-competition training camp in England.
Penny has only recently received medical clearance from Gymnastics Australia and the TIS medical team to compete in Daytona after spending five weeks rehabilitating his foot.
Despite preparations being shorter than normal, Kelly is confident Penny will be ready to compete.
Tasmanian champion Axelsen will make his world championship debut in Daytona competing in the men's double-mini event.
Kelly believes Axelsen has been building his performances all year and has the ability to produce a credible result in Daytona.
Penny and Axelsen will take part in a pre-competition training camp in Fort Lauderdale next week before heading to Daytona Beach on November 3.
