What they claim they are doing and what they are really doing are two very different things.
They tell the public they simply want to freeze wage increases for teachers for a couple of years.
If this was really the case I dare say most teachers wouldn't care.
What they are really doing is attacking that which most teachers hold dear - the reason we all became teachers in the first place - to give all children a quality education and the best chance at life.
They want to cut hundreds of teacher jobs.
Government schools already have large class sizes and very little extra support for struggling learners.
As teachers, it is heartbreaking to see children not progressing at the rate they should and know that with a little extra one-on-one or small group support from a teacher, they could have a much brighter future.
That's why we are not accepting the government's proposal.
Not for our bank balance, but for the children we want the best opportunities for.
And while the government claims they need to make cuts because of Tasmania's great debts, why does education and health care have to be the first options?
Tasmania has more politicians a head of population than any other state.
These politicians are some of the highest paid.
Let us see them put their money where their mouths are and leave our children's educations and futures alone.
