Henry Cornish and Charlotte Page, both 17, will leave for Russia today to compete in the World Youth Latin DanceSport Championships.
Performing five dances over one big day, the pair have been preparing for this day for the months.
Charlotte said the style of dance in Russia was very different to the style in Australia.
‘‘We’ve been working on making our routines quicker and faster where we can,’’ she said.
‘‘You never really know exactly what to expect but I think that’s all part of the experience.
‘‘I think we can say now that we’re ready to go.’’
Henry said he was feeling good about the competition.
‘‘It feels really good just to know that you are going to be holding your flag over in Russia and showing off Australia to the rest of the world,’’ he said.
The two will be performing the samba, cha-cha, rumba, pasodoble and the jive.
Coach Andrew Palmer said just getting to the competition was a great achievement.
‘‘They’ve been training non-stop for five years but in the last six months they’ve been doing 6am training sessions then again every other afternoon,’’ Palmer said.
‘‘They’ve put a lot of years and practice into this so we’re very excited.’’
Charlotte’s bright pink costume has taken 30 hours to complete and includes more than 10,000 hand-sewn sequins.
