After a heated debate at the party’s state council this morning, a motion urging the government to look at a move towards single member electorates in the House of Assembly was successful.
Speaking in favour of the motion, Richard Chugg said multi-member electorates had played into the hands of minor parties.
“The state has been saddled with impotent, dysfunctional governments cobbled together for political expediency,” he said.
House of Assembly Speaker Elise Archer backed the investigation, saying Hare-Clark was too complicated even for candidates.
“Every time I run in it, I find something out about it,” she said.
