Jason Robert Burns, 21, faced the Launceston Magistrates Court for a facts hearing today.
He had previously pleaded guilty to charges including having failed to stop after a crash, having evaded police, six breaches of a family violence order and two counts of petrol theft.
Police prosecutor Michael Bonde told the court that on March 13 this year, uniform division officers in a marked police car were patrolling Kings Meadows.
About 11.25am, near the intersection of Riseley and Jillian streets, a grey Holden Commodore sedan disobeyed a give-way sign and T-boned the police car.
Mr Bonde said the Commodore was going so fast that police did not even see the car coming.
He said the police car spun around and was pushed about 10 metres south down Jillian Street.
The officers inside suffered minor injuries and received hospital treatment.
The police car was a write-off and the unlicensed driver, Burns, fled from his car.
Mr Bonde said Burns jumped numerous residential backyard fences and an initial search failed to find him.
He said members of the public feared for their safety, given what had just happened and because police had blocked off several streets.
Later, police received calls of sightings of Burns in the Kings Meadows area and apprehended him in Guy Street.
Defence solicitor Adrian Hall said his instructions had been brief and his client, who had been in custody since March 14, accepted his fate.
Magistrate Simon Brown adjourned sentencing to Friday at 2.15pm.
