Police were called to a disturbance in Lovett Street about 1.30pm yesterday.
A 50-year-old man had sustained serious head injuries.
Police charged two men, aged 43 and 33, with offences in relation to the altercation.
The injured man was treated in Queenstown Hospital and then transferred to the North West Regional Hospital in a stable condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
