CONGRATULATIONS to Emily Baker for her article. She has indeed hit the nail on the head. It is so refreshing to hear a young person’s view of this beautiful city and to have her agree with senior citizens.

Why do we need a ‘brand’ let alone a new one? We have all that she mentions, and more surrounding us, yet we waste money on a new ‘brand’. For what reason? We have a coat of arms which should get people asking what it represents, which is far better than the thylacine logo.
It looks as though if we keep going on the track we are on that, like the thylacine, we may disappear.
We are here.
We are unique.
Our history is unique.
We have our own identity.
We sit in a unique setting like no other. We are already on maps and in history books and all we need to do is maintain properly what we have and make it an inviting and pleasant place to visit.
Promote what we have like the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, the Gorge, our special buildings, dare I say the parks and on the list goes.
Why not have pamphlets available for visitors regarding the layout and history of the streets.
This could be done in a series.
Visitors like to take home something tangible from a trip and if free then all the better.
It would also help to educate the young citizens of the city as to what is around them.
Prominent buildings could have plaques on the footpath with a brief history and be numbered on a plan.
Promote and identify our various precincts with appropriate signage and the CBD could be made more attractive with hanging baskets and planters as was trialled some years ago.
Make people feel welcome.
