Mowbray Heights Primary School physical education teacher Justin Cudmore was yesterday inducted as a ‘‘legend’’ into the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Having worked at the school for 14 years, Mr Cudmore said the award was a great honour.
‘‘You work away for years and years and try and do the best by the kids,’’ Mr Cudmore said.
‘‘It’s nice recognition.
‘‘It’s fantastic. I’m living the dream.’’
Combining traditional sports with new technology, Mr Cudmore is loved by his students for his fun and ever-changing classes.
Dance mats, iPads and giant fitballs are just some of the equipment he uses.
‘‘In the traditional form of phys ed we were all just standing there and doing the same thing over and over until perfection,’’ Mr Cudmore said.
‘‘We try and do that but in different ways.
‘‘The kids still get the same skills and the same level of excellence but it’s far more enjoyable.’’
Mowbray Heights principal Sharon Symes said the recognition was well deserved.
‘‘I’m just so pleased for Justin,’’ Ms Symes said.
‘‘He’s always thinking about new ways and new programs to motivate children.’’
Student Taliha Haynes, 11, said he was a great teacher.
‘‘He lets people have the chance to have fun,’’ Taliha said.
The school also received the award for the Most Outstanding Primary School in Health and Physical Education in Tasmania.
