The agreement came after a hearing in the Industrial Commission yesterday. The first consultation will take place on Tuesday.
AEU Tasmanian branch president Terry Polglase said he was pleased with the decision.
"The Department of Education concession came despite the government's use of the Department of Public Prosecutions to try and derail the process," he said.
"Hodgman's insidious 'wages cut legislation' is designed with the express purpose of giving the government power to bypass the commission. Wins like today, on behalf of Pathway Planners, would otherwise not be possible."
The Education Department also announced yesterday that transitional arrangements for affected employees would be put on hold during the consultation period.
