The 54-year-old was trying to cross a creek on the South Coast Crack when he fell into the water and became so wet and cold that he felt he was unable to continue.
The helicopter rescued the man from Deadman's Bay about 8am today.
He did not require hospitalisation.
Tasmania Police took the opportunity to remind people going on bushwalks and remote outdoor activities that they need to be prepared for all weather conditions.
