Last week, 13 parents graduated from On Our Patch, an initiative that helps parents achieve their Certificate I in Community Services.
The ceremony was held at Exeter Primary School, where participants had been involved in the Launching into Learning program.
On Our Patch was developed by The Smith Family, and is now delivered by Waverley-based organisation Avidity Training and Development, in conjunction with the school.
Avidity business development manager Carmen Gumley said the program recognised the skills and knowledge that parents already possessed, and provided an opportunity to gain further skills and knowledge, as well as an accredited qualification.
Parents who complete the course are further offered the opportunity to continue their studies into a Certificate II in Community Services - last year, a third of graduates went on to further accreditation.
Exeter Primary School principal Alison Brooks said the school community was extremely proud of the parents who completed the certificate.
"A very positive aspect of this program is that our parents are setting an example to their children about the value of learning, no matter what age, and the importance of setting goals and working towards them," Ms Brooks said.
