Funds were yesterday announced at the Meander Valley Enterprise Centre, which will help facilitate the community-driven wireless project.
Meander Valley Mayor Craig Perkins said funds would be spent achieving goals identified in the council's $30,000 economic renewal report.
"(The report) started two years ago is tied to helping support opportunities identified by the community," Cr Perkins said.
"The money will go to the enterprise centre to try and achieve some outcomes of that report."
The Tasmania Craft Fair has been identified as an ideal testing ground for the Wi-Fi technology, according to Economic Renewal Action Group chairman Leon Porter.
"People are generally using mobile devices and all manner of things at the craft fair," Mr Porter said.
"We can use that to collect data, which we hope will help us with the final model that we can take to Westbury, Hadspen, Prospect Vale and other areas."
Meander Valley Enterprise Centre facilitator Richard Millen said funding also secured the centre's future after 2015.
"We've now got two years beyond that time to continue doing good work and continue seeking funding," Mr Millen said.
