The council transferred $120,000 of funding set aside for a Greens Beach shelter shed replacement towards the $219,818 needed at a special council meeting on Tuesday.
Playground company Playtas had offered the council a $60,000 discount on the condition the equipment was ordered before the end of August.
West Tamar Mayor Barry Easther said the council had voted unanimously to fund the new play equipment.
The timber maze was due to be dismantled in the next financial year.
"[The new equipment] has been ordered and we plan to have it in place by December," Cr Easther said.
"It is a great piece of equipment to enhance the facilities we already have at Tailrace Park.
"It is a lot of money but it is something that will last us a long time."
Cr Easther said the Riverside Lions Club first started discussions about replacing the wooden maze, but since pulled out of the project following a change in leadership.
He said he understood that the club planned to build something else at the park.
Cr Easther said the money set aside for the Greens Beach project was insufficient as it had relied on a federal government grant that had not come through.
He said the shelter shed replacement would likely be included in a future budget.
