It is understood the Steve Kons, Barry Chipman and Darryl Quilliam will also contest the position.
Cr Jarvis said that he had been on the LGAT general management committee for the past three years and had seen how the the overarching body worked.
``I think I can be of value to local government as a whole in that we need to be pretty pro-active around the place _ local government has a lot of issues it has to deal with over the next three to five years,'' Cr Jarvis said.
``Possible ammalgamations, mergers, the decline in financial assistance grants and taking a more pro-active approach to its dealings with state and federal governments.
``I believe we tend to take what's given to us, but we should push back at times and support our communities.''
Cr Jarvis said that he believed he had what was needed to achieve this.
