What is actually shameful, however, is the expectation of people like Glennis Sleurink, that countries like Australia should continually accept boat people purely based on their economic circumstances, and not because they are genuine asylum seekers or refugees, fleeing things like religious or political persecution.
This is not only completely and utterly "shameful" and unfair on those with genuine claims, left sitting in horrendous conditions in refugee camps for years on end, but it is also completely unfair on the billions, not millions or thousands or even hundreds, of other economically poor people in third world countries to come here simply because they don't have the money to pay a people smuggler.
These people are also human beings, so why should they miss out?
