THE countdown is on for Newstead College students as they prepare to perform the 1970s hit musical Godspell.

Godspell is based on the gospel according to St Matthew and covers the last days of Jesus.

Musical director Roger Francis believes it is the most vocally challenging production the college has undertaken to date.

Performers will have a firm friend in former queen of pop Colleen Hewett, who will be a special guest for the opening night on August 21.

Tickets to Godspell are $29.95 for adults, $19.95 for children, and will be available from the Princess Theatre or phone 63233666.
