As the Commonwealth Games begins in Glasgow, outrage has broken out over the discovery that Tasmania has been left off the map.
Speedo-designed swimwear features multiple maps of the mainland with native animals, but the Apple Isle is nowhere to be seen.
Writer Reg Watson said the snubbing showed Tasmania wasn't taken seriously by the rest of Australia.
``I think it's absolutely appalling,'' Mr Watson said.
``This is typical of how mainlanders treat Tasmania and this is why I believe in secession for Tasmania,'' he said.
``Whoever is the organiser should be approached and asked to explain why Tasmania has been left off the map,'' Mr Watson said.
Premier Will Hodgman said it was ``utterly un-Australian'' and a ``disgrace'', and he would be seeking an explanation and apology.
``I'm seriously annoyed, but this doesn't mean we'll move to secede,'' Mr Hodgman said.
Mr Hodgman said he hoped it inspired Tasmanian athletes to do even better in Glasgow.
Tasmanian Palmer United Party Senator Jacqui Lambie told media she wanted $5 million in compensation from the Commonwealth government to spend on tourism for the state.
Bass Liberal MHR Andrew Nikolic said he had written to federal Sports Minister Peter Dutton to express his displeasure.
``I think it's a serious omission by the Commonwealth Games Federation,'' Mr Nikolic said. ``They should have a good, hard look at themselves.''
During the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games Tasmania was left off the map when performers formed a map of Australia.
Mr Nikolic said the omission at these games was a ``repetitive insult''.
