Justin Joseph Ewell, 30, broke into a temporary work site at Symmons Plains in July last year and stole building equipment worth about $81,000 and a Mitsubishi utility.
He left DNA at the scene.
Police recovered some equipment, to the value of about $59,000, and the car, which was damaged.
Later, Ewell received a Kia Sportage while on bail, which had been stolen from Budget Rent-A-Car at Western Junction in September 2013.
In February this year, he also broke into a Kings Meadows work site and stole equipment worth about $21,000.
Ewell pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary, three counts of stealing, one count of having received stolen property, and one count of motor vehicle stealing and was sentenced in the Launceston Supreme Court yesterday.
Justice Robert Pearce jailed Ewell for 16 months, backdated to February 3, with a non-parole period of eight months.
