The North-East dairy company won the From the Dairy Artisan Award for its Tasty Cheddar (12+ months).
Pyengana Dairy Company general manager Greg Gibson said it was good to see that people recognised Tasmania had award- winning cheese.
He said the win had a lot to do with the company's history.
"We have been making it the same for a long time," he said.
"It's the same recipe, it's the same style and cared for in the same hands."
The dairy company started in 1992, when Jon Healey decided to value-add to his family's farm.
The family had been producing English-style cheddar cheese in the Pyengana Valley for three generations.
Mr Healey, a fourth- generation dairy farmer, operates the company with his wife Lyndall, their three daughters and about 25 staff.

"Research shows that Australian home cooks are more and more interested in knowing where their food comes from," she said.
"They want to support local growers and artisans and shop at farmers markets.
