The cars collided in the South bound lane of the outlet just at the top of the hill, near the Prospect turn off, about 11.30am.
Tasmania Police diverted traffic via the Bass Highway for almost two hours.
Tow trucks cleared the scene and the road was re-opened just after 1pm.
There were no serious injuries and a motorist was treated at the scene by a passing nurse.
