The Hagley farmer has just returned home from his eight-day Nuffield International 2014 Contemporary Scholars Conference in Sydney and Canberra with more than 60 scholars from Australia, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, France, The Netherlands, Brazil and the US.
Mr Gibson said the conference provided a great insight into the global agricultural industry and broadened his way of thinking.
"It's easy to stay inside the fences of your property and forget who you are producing the fruits of your labour for," Mr Gibson said.
"The global agricultural industry is enormous and we were presented with a number of differing views and issues."
The conference is only the beginning of Mr Gibson's journey, as he will soon embark on a six- week organised global focus program, followed by his personal study tour to Canada, the US, New Zealand, The Netherlands and UK looking at the latest drainage technology to improve production on his farm.
Farmers are invited to the presentation evening to hear about the initial experiences of Mr Gibson and his fellow travellers, nurserywoman Karen Brock and Van Diemen's Land Company dairy business manager Paul Niven.
The evening will also feature presentations by scholars who have completed or are near the end of their studies.
These include Nile cropping farmer Michael Chilvers, flower grower, market gardener and cafe owner Richard Weston, and Pooley Wines viticulturist Matthew Pooley.
The evening starts at 6pm and the cost is $40 a person. RSVPs should be directed to Bernadette Clarke at findowie@bigpond. com or on 0418135567.
