Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has agreed to trial using Aurora power poles to deliver fibre to the premise after meeting with Tasmanian Liberal leader Will Hodgman on Wednesday.
TasICT executive officer Dean Winter said it had become increasingly clear that Tasmanians wanted the superior fibre to the premises rollout, rather than NBNCo's revised plan to use a mix of copper and fibre.
“This means at the very least, some additional Tasmanian towns and suburbs will receive FttP NBN technology that would have otherwise had an uncertain rollout future," Mr Winter said.
Details about when the size, location and start date of the trial are yet to be finalised.
