Environment Minister Brian Wightman this morning opened the Lilydale water supply scheme, which delivers fully treated water from the Chimney Saddle water treatment plant to the town via a 26 kilometre pipeline.
“For many years, Lilydale has received an untreated, reticulated water supply that was subject to a permanent boil water alert and was consistently the worst water supply in terms of microbiological performance in Tasmania," Mr Wightman said.
“The system now meets the necessary drinking water standards and the permanent boil water alert has been removed,” he said.
TasWater spent about $7 million building the pipeline and associated supply system infrastructure.
