Tasmania Police Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard confirmed yesterday that the Southern District sergeant was suspended on full play on Friday, November 29.
"It is not appropriate to provide further details or comment as the matter remains under investigation," Mr Tilyard said.
"However, Tasmania Police can say that the matter is not linked in any way to the Tasmania Police Firearms Database."
Police Association of Tasmania president Pat Allen said the association would comment when the investigation was over.
The investigation is meant to be competed by Christmas, but that deadline may not be met.
"Tasmania Police are notoriously slow at dealing with in-house matters," Constable Allen said.
"They should tie them up a lot quicker than they do."
It is possible that charges will be laid once investigations have concluded.
