Education Minister Nick McKim this morning announced a proposed funding model, called the Respectful Schools: Supporting Student Need Model, which will boost Tasmanian school disability funding by $3 million.
Today's announcement is an interim step until the Gonksi funding flows in 2015.
“``This is about breaking down barriers and helping students with a disability fulfil their potential,”'' Mr McKim said.
“``In my time as Education Minister, I've met many bright, ambitious students who just need some more targeted support.
“``We've listened to the concerns of parents and students, and responded with a transitional proposal that provides an extra $3 million of funding next year, and better meets the specific individual needs of students.”''
Students with an intellectual capacity IQ score between 55 and 70 will receive direct funds to support their learning needs, Mr McKim said.
