Called One, Two, Three, Home, the play was written by college teachers Anne Riley and Georgie Todman and is directed by Todman.
There is a cast and crew of more than 85 students who deliver live music, dance and an original song.
Todman said the play talked about the importance of community and individuals having a solid foundation in their society, with the point driven home by a sweep through Australian history from the 1920s to 1990s.
In the play, a boy is given a seed, which he plants, and the production follows the growth of the boy and the plant over the decades.
``Our roots define us - our past and future are intrinsically linked,'' Todman said yesterday.
``It was a chance to have a history lesson as well as put on a show.
``If you do not understand where you come from, you will not understand where you are going.
``The nurturing of an individual and a country can be likened to the nurturing and tending of a tree.''
She said the play was a collaborative effort from students in years 6, 7 and 8 across many disciplines.
