The Australian Maritime College and University of Tasmania open day will showcase what they have to offer students heading into tertiary study at the Newnham, Inveresk and Beauty Point campuses for the first time or those returning to study later in life.
Most course presentations and activities get under way from 10am and run until 3pm.
College open day event co-ordinator Alicia Perry said there was something for everyone to try their hand at, including taking control of a ship coming into dock in the maritime simulation centre.
"It's set up like a ship's bridge, so they can simulate coming into many ports around the world and people can experience what it's like navigating your way into Sydney Harbour," she said.
The college's aquaculture centre will also be operating tours and there will be rescue demonstrations running every 20 minutes.
Those interested in a life at sea can jump aboard the Bluefin or Stephen Brown training vessels at Beauty Point. (Participants must be at least 12.)
It is the first time in some years the Bluefin will be open to the public.
Hook Line and Sinker television show host Andrew Hart will also be on hand and running a fishing line casting competition at Newnham.
Singer and UTAS psychology student, Reuben Koops, who recently wowed judges on Australia's Got Talent, has also been confirmed to perform on the day.
Catch him near the undercover area of the university library at 12.30pm to 12.50pm, or 1.30pm to 1.50pm.
There will be a free barbecue and shuttle buses running between UTAS Newnham and Inveresk campuses and AMC Newnham and Beauty Point.
