It was the Saints' second draw of the season and they now remain two points behind the Robins with just four rounds left before September finals' action.
The contest was neck-and-neck for a majority of the match before the final siren sounded with both sides locked on 11.11 (101) apiece.
Ulverstone's Jordan Kelly kicked a five-goal haul, while Smithton's Scott Bryan booted four majors to be the game's most productive scorers. Robins coach Justin Hays said the result was disappointing, but was satisfied that they still held the advantage over their opponents.
``In the end, a draw is better than a one-point loss,'' Hays said.
``Simon Vanderfeen was really good for four quarters, Mitch Parker done a tagging job on Josh Smith and did a good job but most of our midfielders were also good.''
Saints coach Jarrod Watling said he was still hopeful his side can steal third spot to host Ulverstone at home in the first final.
He said his boys played some good patches of football to go with some not so good ones.
``We couldn't put a four-quarter effort together. We could put 10 minutes together really well and then the other 10 minutes it was all Ulverstone,'' Walting said.
``Scotty Bryan was great today in his first game back for a long time along with Guy Kearnes and Aaron Tuxworth in what was a bit of a team effort.''
