It will be Mr Abbott's first visit, in the context of a new showdown with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, and his eighth visit in the past two years.
Mr Abbott qualified the value of the Invermay Park promise, saying that due to Labor's debt and deficits, it was a difficult time to make commitments.
"But, [Bass Liberal candidate] Andrew Nikolic has put the case about the usage of the park. Sporting groups need playable grounds, and strong sporting groups are a vital part of local communities," Mr Abbott said.
"I know as a former health minister that widespread sporting participation makes our communities healthier, and this commitment will help the sporting clubs of Launceston.
"Invermay Park is where Ricky Ponting played his first years of cricket and let's hope it will be the home of even more Australian sporting greats in the years ahead," he said.
Mr Abbott's visit coincides with new national polling, which shows that Labor is enjoying an electoral Kevin Rudd honeymoon.
Mr Nikolic hailed the looming Invermay Park promise as great news for users.
"The park is used year-round and it has been clear for some time that it is not coping with the pressures our community is putting on it," Mr Nikolic said.
