Ms Giddings said she needed more engagement from Prime Minister Julia Gillard on the state's concerns and more information on the legislation enacting the reforms.
Ms Giddings has consistently said she supports the move in principle but has held out on putting pen to paper.
South Australia yesterday joined New South Wales and the ACT in backing the new school funding model.
``We would hope that we can have our concerns resolved,'' Ms Giddings said yesterday.
``The legislation that is now being tabled in the Parliament shows that the 30th of June is not a drop-dead date.''
Ms Giddings said she needed more information on how the system would work.
``We don't want to sign up to something which indeed could see a potential future education minister in Christopher Pyne dictating to all the states that they have to put money into flagpoles and national anthems,'' she said.
Tasmania's Liberal opposition has expressed concern that the state government is looking to target private schools for funding cuts as part of its deal with the Commonwealth.
