Prominent Northern Tasmanian educator Elizabeth Daly has been announced as the new interim Children's Commissioner.

Children's Minister Michelle O'Byrne said Ms Daly would fill the position while work continued on the kind of commissioner Tasmania required long term.
"Ms Daly is a highly respected and experienced senior educator who will bring a wealth of knowledge and talent to the role," Ms O'Byrne said.
Ms Daly will be based in Launceston and will oversee the completion of a number of ongoing projects including alternatives to Ashley Youth Detention Centre and the Smoke-Free project.
Outgoing Commissioner Aileen Ashford is on leave until June 17 before taking up a position interstate.
