Premier Lara Giddings yesterday announced a new school renewal fund would feature in tomorrow's?ntsa?Thursday?nte 2013-14 state budget, set to be the biggest spending on school capital works since the federal government's Building the Education Revolution program.
New Town High School in the state's South will receive ?$2.83?thmillion, but Ms Giddings would not reveal the total cost or how many other schools would benefit ahead of the budget's release.
The state's education budget will also be increased to take into account funding to implement Gonski reforms, despite negotiations with the federal government yet to reach a resolution.
Ms Giddings wants Prime Minister Julia Gillard's proposed one-size-fits-all funding model changed to provide greater as?sistance in underprivileged areas.
?nts``We want to ensure that the funding goes to where it is needed most,'' Ms Giddings said.
?nteTasmania is expected to contribute $140 million over six years and the federal government will provide $400 million.
If the state signs up, it will receive $165 million in National Education Reform funding in 2013-14, increasing thereafter.
Ms Giddings said the state's extra contribution to school funding would remain regardless of whether the Gonski reforms went ahead or not.
