Two women were inside sleeping when their Viewbank Road home copped two bullets about 5am. The bullets have not been recovered.
The shooting left two windows damaged but nobody was injured.
Launceston Detective Inspector Scott Flude said it appeared the culprits fired the shots on foot before jumping into a getaway car.
Police said they were unsure what sparked the shooting or who may have been responsible.
``We are concerned about any firearm discharges in the community and we would like anybody with information on these incidents to contact us,'' Inspector Flude said.
Yesterday's firearm incident was the third suburban shooting in Launceston this week.
The first two at Kings Meadows and Prospect Vale are yet to be fully confirmed although police believe they may be linked.
It follows a series of shootings in the South that saw a man allegedly shot in the legs as he walked across the Jordan River Bridge at Bridgewater.
A 19-year-old male was later charged in relation to the matter.
Then last week police were called to a Gagebrook home after a bullet was fired through its front window.
Police said it was not connected to the Bridgewater shootings.
Coincidently, the officer in charge of the Bridgewater investigation, Detective Inspector Colin Riley, has been moved to Launceston to become acting Northern Commander.
He temporarily replaces Commander Richard Cowling, who is filling deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard's role after he was seconded to the Health Department.
Launceston's Detective Senior Sergeant Jonathan Higgins said police were looking for information from the community relating to the Newnham shooting.
The shooting is being investigated by the Northern Crime and Drug Investigation Service.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Launceston CIB on 6336 3910.
